Buy units or buy a camp?
| Buy an existing camp | Buy units for your own site | |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Fixed; wherever the camp is | Where your work is, and movable |
| Capital | Land, buildings, infrastructure in one price | Units + freight and set + site work |
| Condition | Used; inspect roofs, HVAC, plumbing | New, with known specs |
| Capacity | What exists | What you order, in phases |
| At the end | Sell the property or keep operating | Move units to the next job or resell them |
Investors who want an operating business may prefer a camp. Contractors who want beds near a specific lease or plant usually do better with units. Run both through the break-even calculator.
Pads, utilities, and permits
- Pads: level, drained caliche or gravel pads with room for trucks to back units in.
- Water: city service where available; otherwise wells or hauled water with storage.
- Wastewater: sewer, septic (OSSF permits), or holding tanks with a pump-out contract.
- Power: a utility drop sized for every room’s PTAC and water heater, or generators.
- Permits: inside city limits, zoning and any specific-use permit (Odessa uses two-year SUPs for workforce housing). In unincorporated county land, septic permits, plats, and access. Housing three or more workers may also raise TDHCA licensing questions; ask counsel.

Skid, chassis, or blocks
| Setup | How it works | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Skid-mounted | Unit sits on a steel skid and is lifted or winched onto a trailer for each move | Frequent moves between leases |
| On chassis (wheeled) | Unit keeps its running gear so it can be towed again | Jobs measured in months with a known next move |
| Set on blocks | Unit is set on piers and tied down; running gear is removed | Long jobs and camps meant to stay a while |
Which setups are available depends on the model and order. Ask us what your units ship on.
Redeploy and resale
When the rig count or a project moves, owned units move with it or sell. Workforce units have a resale market because the next job needs beds too. See redeploy or resell.

Common questions
Where can I buy man camp units in the Permian Basin?
From factory-direct suppliers, dealers, and used-unit resellers. We sell new crew units and sleepers factory-direct through our Texas factory partner and deliver across the Basin, from Midland and Odessa to Pecos and Kermit.
How much does a man camp cost in the Permian?
It depends on what you buy. A 115-suite Pecos camp was listed at $2,750,000 in 2026, about $23,900 per suite with land. Buying units for your own site costs units plus freight, set, and site work. See cost per bed.
Do you have crew units in stock?
Stock changes weekly, so we do not post quantities. Ask for current availability and we will tell you what is ready and what needs a build slot.
Can crew units be moved from lease to lease?
Yes. Crew units and sleepers are built to be transported and re-set. Each move needs oversize permits, a prepared pad, and re-leveling and hookups.
What is the hotel per diem in the Permian?
GSA FY2027 lodging rates: $136 in Midland, Andrews, Ector, and Martin counties; $133 in Big Spring (Howard); $125 in Pecos (Reeves); $113 standard elsewhere.
Do you rent rooms to oilfield workers?
No. We sell housing units to employers, operators, and landowners. If you are looking for a bed, ask your employer or local RV parks and camps.
