Power plants are the next workforce housing crunch in West Texas
2026-08-22 · power · renewables
Data centers need power, and much of it in West Texas is new gas generation built on or near the campus. Camp operators have announced beds specifically for power plant crews, including communities near Pecos and in West Texas. Power crews now compete with data center, oilfield, and renewables crews for the same rooms.
For power EPCs
- Lock beds early or own them
- Plan supervisor housing; outage and commissioning teams need it too
- Keep some units for operations staff after commissioning
