Housing a pipeline spread: a practical guide for contractors
2026-08-10 · pipeline
A spread moves. Housing has three ways to keep up:
- One central camp within an hour of most of the route. Simple, but drive times grow as the spread moves.
- Leapfrog camps: two sites, with units moved from the back camp to the front as the work progresses.
- Hotels in route towns: fine for small crews, expensive and scattered for big ones.
Make moves cheap
- Units on transportable chassis
- Pads prepped ahead of the move
- Generators and holding tanks when utilities aren’t ready
