Does H-2A housing have to be inspected before workers arrive?

Reviewed 2026-10-19 by the Workforce Housing Direct team

Yes. H-2A housing must be inspected and approved before workers occupy it, typically by the state workforce agency for the Department of Labor. If housing is not approved in time, workers can't move in and the start date can slip. Order new units early and schedule inspection well before the season.

Factory-built units help because the layout, life-safety items, and square footage are known before delivery. See H-2A housing.
