Can manufactured homes and crew units handle Gulf Coast hurricane wind zones?
Reviewed 2026-10-19 by the Workforce Housing Direct team
Yes, if they are built and installed for the site's wind zone. HUD-code homes are built for Wind Zone I, II, or III, and must be installed in a zone they are rated for. Several Texas coastal counties fall in Zone II or III. Non-coded industrialized buildings are designed to the building code's wind speed for the site. Tell us the county and we'll confirm the requirement.
Coastal installs also need correct anchoring and tie-downs, and may need elevation in floodplains. See LNG and Gulf Coast housing.
